The Oncology Reception of Etelä-Savo Hospital District (Essote) is responsible for the treatment of solid tumours and lymphomas in the Essote region. Savonlinna Central Hospital is responsible for diagnosing cancer as well as the implementation and monitoring of treatment in the region of the hospital district. Part of the surgical treatment of cancer patients is performed at the Savonlinna Central Hospital, but the more demanding surgical treatment of cancer patients such as radiotherapy is usually carried out at Kuopio University Hospital. Medical care related to cancer is arranged at the drug treatment unit. The monitoring of cancer patients is organised in specialised outpatient clinics in co-operation with the Oncology Outpatient Clinic.
